The summer regatta schedule, which is already down to a few possibilities, just got shorter with the cancellation of the USRowing Master’s National Championships scheduled for August in Oakland, California.

USRowing announced Tuesday afternoon that the regatta could not take place on Lake Merritt as planned. In making the announcement, USRowing said the association was looking at possible alternatives, including relocation or complete cancellation.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Visit Oakland, Lake Merritt and the city of Oakland will not be able to host the 2020 USRowing Masters National Championships scheduled for August 13-16. USRowing would like to thank Visit Oakland and Lake Merritt Rowing Club for their partnership on this regatta, and we look forward to bringing masters nationals back to Oakland in the future,” the announcement stated.
