#2 Princeton Lightweight Men Captures Platt Cup For First Time Since 2018

PRINCETON – The No. 2 Men’s Lightweight Rowing Team secured the Platt Cup for the first time since 2018 over the No. 3 Cornell Big Red on Saturday morning on Lake Carnegie.

Cornell’s 3V (6:04.37) dropped Princeton (6:36.4) as racing began. The Big Red’s 2V also won with a 5:54.57 by three seconds.

The 1V ended Cornell’s three-race winning streak with a 1.2-second victory, crossing the line at 5:40.27.

“It was a great showing of the lightweight dual racing with two very good crews,” said Adam Casler, coxswain of the 1V. “We knew Cornell was going to be a tough crew to beat and the race speaks for itself. It feels really good to have the Platt Cup back in the boathouse.”

“The 1V race had it all,” said Princeton head coach Marty Crotty. “On a weekend when there was so much action on Lake Carnegie, I’m proud that the best race of the weekend was for the Platt Cup. This was the perfect test for us as we had to use every play in the playbook to get our boat across the line first. Congratulations to Cornell on bringing the Harriet Cup back to Ithaca for winning the 2V and 3V races. We’re looking forward to being home again next week for some more tight racing vs. Penn and Georgetown.”

Princeton welcomes Penn and Georgetown next Saturday (Apr. 20) for the Wood-Hammond and Fosburgh Cups.
