The morning practice session brought dark skies and rain, with most rowers planning for the worst weather for afternoon racing. Youth, collegiate, and masters rowers took to the water to test the 2,000-meter course and get in a last-minute tune-up before racing. All went quiet as lunchtime approached before the afternoon kicked off.

The rowing season starts in San Diego for collegiate teams on Saturday as Texas, USC, Cal and Washington are set to face off in both the women’s and men’s eight heats to vie for a spot in the finals on Sunday. Saturday will also feature youth and junior racing and continue master’s racing with the club quad races.

Rowing News will continue to have updates from San Diego throughout the weekend.
