The U.S. Women’s 8+ claimed gold at the FISU World University Championships in Rotterdam on July 6th, the international championship for university students. The crew spent three weeks training on Ford Lake with Eastern Michigan University head coach Kemp Savage, along with the women’s single, men’s four, and men’s single. University of Michigan men’s head coach Gregg Hartsuff served as the head coach of the full squad while Cory Conzemius coached the scullers.

The FISU World University Championships are held for 79 sponsored sports every other year, alternating with the combined World University Games on odd-numbered years. Head women’s coach Savage explains that this is an opportunity for developing collegiate rowers to take the next step in their athletic careers. “It’s a really great opportunity to find out if international racing is something you want to do and something you want to keep driving towards.” He continued, “These kind of camps are really open for people who might not quite be there yet to make the World Championship camps or Olympic camps, but need that experience and how to row a camp.”
The 2025 FISU World University Games will be held in the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germany, with the rowing races taking place at Regattabahn Duisburg.
