Great Britain won the men’s eight for the fourth year in a row at the 2026 World Rowing Under 19 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Romania won the women’s eight. Both countries are also the defending Olympic champions in the men’s and women’s eights.
“Our crews continued to demonstrate a mature and committed approach to training,” said Great Britain’s U19 team manager John Layng.
The U.S. men’s junior eight won the silver medal, ahead of Germany in third. Germany and Romania tied atop the medals table with three golds and six total medals each. The U.S. was ninth of 55 nations entered on the medals table, with two total medals: the men’s eight’s silver and a bronze in the mixed eight event that drew four entries.
The U.S. women’s junior eight finish fifth of five entries in their event. USRowing sent 39 athletes to Bulgaria to race in nine events at junior worlds.
“We’re incredibly proud of how this group competed and represented the United States in Plovdiv,” said Brett Gorman, USRowing’s Head Coach of High Performance Pathways. “Medals are always something to celebrate, but the larger purpose of our Pathways program is the long-term development of athletes and preparing them for future opportunities at the U23 and senior national team levels.”
