Rowers Racing Coast to Coast March 28-29 Weekend

“The Racing Season Starts Here” says the San Diego Crew Classic‘s trademark, and the racing season gets well underway this weekend, starting in San Diego on Friday with masters racing and the ACRA men’s and women’s collegiate eights invitational, featuring some of collegiate club rowing’s top crews. Saturday and Sunday bring racing featuring top youth and varsity collegiate programs, including #1 Texas, #5 Washington, #8 Cal, #20 Notre Dame, #23 USC, and #24 Washington State.

Many of the fastest youth women’s programs, like Connecticut Boat Club, Marin, Marina, Newport Aquatic Center, Norcal, Oakland Strokes, and Saugatuck, are entered. On the men’s youth side, Marin, Newport, and Oakland Strokes are among the 11 entries for the San Diego Rowing Club Cup. San Diego Crew Classic streams live video.

Washington’s men will also race Friday, on the other side of the country, at Sarasota’s Nathan Benderson Park against Harvard for the Bolles Cup. On Saturday, the Huskies and Crimson join Yale, Northeastern, and Brown’s men’s heavyweight eights—first through fifth varsities—to race for the Nathan Benderson Cup.

Also at Nathan Benderson Park this weekend will be the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships, Sunshine State Invitational, and Sarasota 2k, drawing collegiate crews from across Florida and NCAA Division I women’s crew from across the country.

And in Nashville, 33 masters, youth, and collegiate programs will race the Percy Priest Sprints, including ACRA women’s programs from across the country in the Vanderbilt Invitational. On Sunday, March 29, the third Manny Flick / Horvat Series event provides racing opportunities to 3,500 scholastic rowers in Philadelphia.
