San Diego Crew Classic: Top collegiate, junior, and masters talent converged on Mission Bay for another beautiful kickoff to the spring season. While the #4 University of Texas women coming away with a win over #2 Washington, who in turn fell to #7 Cal, in the Jessop-Whittier Cup will appropriately garner a lot of attention, there were plenty of other races worth checking out. On the junior side, the Redwood Scullers defended their 2023 title in the the women’s youth 4x while Los Gatos defeated Maritime, last year’s winner who traveled all the way from Connecticut, by just three seconds in the men’s youth 4x.
Pac-12 Invite: In what one must assume will be the last iteration of this event, at least by this name, six-top 20 men’s collegiate programs took to the waters on Redwood Shores for two days of round-robin style racing. #1 Cal, #8 Stanford, #9 Syracuse, #15 Wisconsin, #16 LaSalle, and #20 Oregon State raced across three sessions, with Cal winning every race they entered with the exception for the 5V who lost to Cal’s own 3V on Sunday. Syracuse decisively beat higher-ranked Stanford in both the V8 and 2V8 races, certain to cause a shake up to this week’s IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll.
