After the latest European heat wave influenced Henley to adjust the schedule for qualifying heats over the weekend, the first day of racing—now Tuesday, as the regatta has grown to six days—featured cool temps and a slight headwind for the morning session and overcast skies over a building headwind in the afternoon.
Over 400 races will be held at the largest Henley Royal Regatta ever, as 862 entries were reduced to 453 in the qualifiers. Over 300,000 are expected to spectate in person at the “modern Edwardian garden party” the event has become, according to one Steward.
Racing runs Tuesday, June 30 through finals on Sunday, July 5
