Hamish Bond may be smaller in stature than during his Kiwi Pair days, but the rower-turned-cyclist is still capable of big results. How big? In early January, a noticeably leaner Bond pedaled his way to a convincing win in the men’s time trial at the New Zealand elite road cycling championships. The two-time Olympic pairs champion covered the 40-kilometer course a full minute-and-a-half ahead of Michael Vink, the next fastest finisher in the 15-person field. Even more impressive, Bond thinks he can go faster. “This is just a start,” he told the New Zealand website Stuff.
