We see a lot of self-directed endurance challenges involving the erg, but none quite like this. Peter Matelli, a 59-year-old morbidly obese Briton, is attempting to row 9.6 million meters over the next three years, the distance from his home in England to the Olympic stadium in Tokyo. Matelli, who goes by the name Obese Man Rowing, weighs approximately 320 pounds and is using the challenge to take control of his health and raise money for charity. “If I can do this and my actions can help one other person sort themselves out then it will be worth it,” said Matelli.
