The University of Buffalo has announced it will eliminate four sports, including women’s rowing, at the end of the academic year in a bid to dramatically reduce athletic department spending. The move, which also eliminates men’s swimming and diving, soccer, and baseball, is expected to save some $2 million a year and reduces the school’s sports teams to 16, the minimum number to retain NCAA Division I status. “I know that this is a difficult day for our student athletes, our coaches, and the entire athletics program and university,” said UB president Satish K. Tripathi.
